Drug Rehab Costs

Drug rehab is intended to be a pathway for addicts and alcoholics to obtain the tools necessary to live a dependence free life and maintain sobriety. While the idea sounds simple, the drug rehabilitation process can involve some very complex treatment methods and depending on the intensity and depth of the treatments offered. Some additional costs involved with drug rehab fees are related to the qualifications of the doctors, therapists and counselors employed as well as the frequency and intensity of the counseling and medical care offered. When looking for a drug rehab for drug and alcohol addiction, generally the first thing to consider is the costs involved. Typically, drug rehab has a tendency to be very expensive with fees soaring into tens of thousands of dollars.

Private Pay Drug Rehab

Private pay drug rehab, as the name implies, is privately owned by either individuals or privately held health companies. Private pay drug rehab centers offer a wide variety of rehab methodologies and philosophies with programs ranging in intensities from outpatient to residential, or inpatient rehab. Some of the best rehabilitative treatment available can be found at private pay drug rehab centers and with this high level of treatment comes a very high price tag. Starting around $10,000 for a 30 day inpatient stay, private pay drug rehab centers can assess fees as high as $70,000 for the same 30 day stay. It all depends on the type of rehab program and the amenities offered at the rehab center. Some drug rehab programs do far more than the 12-step rehab process, and these things add to the costs of the rehab program. While not true of all private pay drug rehab centers, many of the nation's top rehabs do accept private PPO insurance plans with benefits for substance abuse.

Drug Rehab Extra Amenities and Costs

Things like equine assisted psychotherapy where residents will work with horses as a part of their rehabilitation treatment, dual diagnosis drug rehab, massage, yoga, acupuncture, sauna tissue detox, and Christian drug rehab are some examples of specialized drug rehab methodologies and amenities offered that can increase the costs. The more specialized a drug rehab is, the more expensive it has a tendency to be. Another thing that can drive the costs of private pay drug rehab is the exclusivity of the rehab center itself. Many people entering residential drug rehab prefer to have a private bedroom and be in a more secluded environment. This kind of exclusivity and privacy adds more cost to drug rehab. Depending on what kind of drug rehab is needed or desired, the costs associated with the rehab program range from around $10,000 to over $70,000 for 30 days of treatment. Although these prices may seem exorbitant, the truth is that drug rehab centers charge these fees based on the costs of the services and amenities they offer, not because owners are trying to get rich.

State and County Funded Drug Rehab

If you cannot afford private pay drug rehab or do not have sufficient insurance benefits to cover the costs of rehab, hope is not lost. The government also provides help for people struggling with addiction and the inevitable costs associated with it. Many people find it amazing that drug rehab costs as much as it does since addiction itself is such a costly disease, devastating all aspects of life including finances. The drug rehabs provided with the help of the government are either state or county funded and can be partially funded or fully funded.

Partially Funded Drug Rehab

Partially funded drug rehabs are privately owned, but receive funding from from some level of the government to supply beds for addicts and alcoholics with little money or insufficient insurance from providers like Medicare, SSI or Medicaid. These kinds of drug rehab centers operate as half private pay and half state/county funded with the private pay costs dramatically less than those of fully private pay drug rehabs. The sacrifice is the quality of care and qualifications of the professionals treating the residents. Because the fees are so low at these drug rehab centers, they cannot afford to pay the best counselors, doctors and therapists in the addiction treatment field. Instead, less qualified professionals are accepted with less experience and knowledge. Along with the staff, the quality of the center itself and it's services also suffers. In these kinds of drug rehabs, you won't find equine assisted psychotherapy, acupuncture, or massage therapy. Private bedrooms will not be available and more likely than not, the drug rehab programs offered will be 12-step and not offer alternative or holistic treatment philosophies.

Fully Funded Drug Rehab

Fully funded drug rehab centers are completely run by the local or state government as a part of the equivalent of the Health and Human Services Department. In these funded drug rehab centers, people can get in for low to no cost. Like with partially funded drug rehabs, fully funded centers are significantly less money than private pay, however this the low cost is not without sacrifice elsewhere. Again, the qualification of the professionals in fully funded drug rehabs is by far inferior to private pay treatment centers, and these professionals are few and far in between. In a private pay center, one counselor may have a caseload of 5 people, all of whom get a few hours a day, every day, but in a fully funded center, there may not even be any individual counseling available and if there is, it might be 30 minutes every two weeks. In addition to the inferior care and qualifications of the staff, fully funded drug rehab centers often have lengthy waiting lists with the large number of people looking for low to no cost drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

If you are looking into drug rehab, always try to find an appropriate private pay rehab over deciding on a funded rehab. The quality of care will almost always be better in a private pay drug rehab than a funded center. If you absolutely cannot get into a private pay rehab, the best resource for finding the best funded centers in your area is SAMHSA(Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) at 1-800-729-6686.
